I have to agree with ANet on the ban. The Borat vs The Blacks isn't as bad as Josef Fritzl. As others have said that is completely uncalled for. It isn't even funny to joke about.
Also, to all the people that have said they got banned for doing this and that, I have learned to take what they say with a grain of salt. Many times that is not the whole story but rather the part that makes them sound like the victim.

Exactly, though sadly that seems to be something that seems to be lacking in today's society.

You play with fire, you get burned. If you have idea that a name could be offensive, don't use it.

This is plain as day, racial connotation, reference certain real-life people that may cause distress
They CLEARLY have a case against you, but.....
Let the punishment fit the crime?? I mean I don't see a reason to permanently ban someone for this. If the abuse continues thereafter than more drastic measures are obviously needed.
This game needs community service, like if you get banned you can come back early if you do community service like here is a good punishment, log in for 12 hours straight and farm Juni Berries and sell them to the merchant.
Seriously though I think perma-ban is too much, a ban of some sort would be appropriate though, and a flagged account such that if it were reported again, and again, with WARNINGS to the player, "your next offense will result in a permanent ban" would be sufficient to come down and perma-ban is a little harsh IMO, also I am giving the poster the benefit of the doubt that he was never previously banned or /reported.

Actually, WoW's naming policy is much harsher than Anet's...
But on topic, it's understandable when names are something that is so vaguely offensive that nobody would ever even suspect it. But when you actually make names to offend people then complain? You're the kinda person they should be banning...

It seems to me that both names are clearly intended to be offensive. For "Borat vs The Blacks" you may be able to find a defense against its clearly racial context, but then you could find a similar defense for the name "Adolf is my Friend." Just because the name MAY have a possibly non-offensive meaning (perhaps you really do have a friend named Adolf) you should understand that context isn't clear to anyone but you (and perhaps your friend Adolf), so anyone in game reading it will recognize the more obvious meaning. So, in other words, if you're too stupid to realize that your name is offensive (which I doubt was the case here) that doesn't excuse you from being a dumshit. Next time you name a character, try to grow up a lot and stop giving guild wars players a bad name.

So basically you broke the rules and are complaining that you got punished for it.
Grow up, would you?
I'll never understand people who purposely pick controversial names and then get annoyed when they get in trouble for it. It reminds me of the little kids who've just learned a new swear word and use it every chance they can get while giggling madly because they're being 'bad', but then whine and complain when they get in trouble when they're caught.

sorry while I don't find offense to them they obviously do have a maybe subconcious undertone to them calling out the "black community" and if you were trying to start crap then yes you deserve the ban. Temp banned 3 times and you don't stop making names that are "calling out" the black community sorry I don't feel bad for you.

OH BOY another I was banned thread!
For the last time, if you have to question whether its offensive or not, its better to play is safe and not use it at all.

One thing you should learn from this other than to think out your names....is to wait until you had time to think this through before you reply a letter like that to ANET that basically holds your nuts in their hands.
Yea people jump in are proud of you telling them off....so what. Fight the power doesnt mean just shove your angry thoughts in the face of the "hand" that holds you.
If you think for one moment that your reply letter would do any good or help you get your name back/acct unbanned.....im sorry, but you arent thinking things over at all. Only thing you did was express your emotions and dig a larger whole. Your reply was not well thought at ALLL.
ANY TIME YOU TARGET a group of people....that pretty much defines being racist or at least ignorant.
You have to remember what you see in your words doesnt mean that other people will see the same.
If someone was serious about praising for being a smart guy(i hope they were being facetious). Maybe you are smart guy, i have no clue. Heres the thing, the names were not a smart decision. Your (tone in the) reply letter was not a smart decision. Wish you best of luck.

Sorry but I'll side with Anet. You were obviously trying to stir the pot. Of all the names you could have come up with and had fun with, you had to make (at least) three characters that are guaranteed to get a rise out of someone. I'd like to know what your other characters were named...probably just as offensive.
Borat vs the Blacks: Borat's entire spiel was full of intolerance towards other ethnicities. Just because the movie didn't target Afro-Americans doesn't mean anything...Borat became popular because of his controversial comments degrading other ethnicities, religions, and women. Therefore, you imply a racial discrimination against blacks by putting the two together. Justified.
Josef Fritzl. A world-notorious incestual rapist. Yeah, 'nuff said.
Dont Touch Me H I V: another obvious attempt to get attention. 1: It's offensive to those infected by HIV by assuming, and spreading the misinformation, that HIV can be spread merely by skin-to-skin contact, which is blatantly false and is the basis for a lot of crimes committed towards HIV victims in the past. They find it hard enough to live a normal life without tardlets like you walking around in a Global video game spreading this kind of irresponsible misinformation.
Find a new game, I'll be glad to not have you cluttering up my chat box with your attention-seeking insults.

Today,everything is racist.
Not showing black people on show=racist, showing a lot of black people on shows=racist, showing the "correct" precentage of black in people in a show(so the same precentage of black people on a show and the percentage of black people in the country)=incredibly racist...
Saying accidently black people in my post too many times is also racist.

There's a difference between Blacks looking for a lack of representation, and someone actively targeting them outright. This case is one of the latter variety.

My thoughts exactly.
Why did you choose those names anyway? Were they suppose to be funny? Were they suppose to give you attention or were you just challenging the naming policy?

In the OP's defense I doubt whoever reported it was actually offended by it. Since the name policy has been brought to light more recently, alot of people have become "offended by everything" out of spite. How much you want to bet there are a few disgruntled individuals going around LOOKING for things to report.
